Cornish Weekly News 22/10/1847: JOHN PENALUNA, 25, was charged with stealing a pig, the property of WILLIAM HOSKING, of Sithney, miller. Mr. H. GRYLLS conducted the prosecution. The prosecutor missed the pig on the 14th of October, 1846, and next saw it at MR. TREWHELA's, farmer, in Ludgvan, on the 26th of October. JOHN TREWHELA testified that on the 15th of October, the prisoner brought him a pig and offered it for sale, saying it was his sister's, who wanted to sell it in order to get some money to enable her to go to her husband at Liverpool. Witness bought the pig for 30s. Afterwards, hearing of some bills being posted, concerning the loss of such a pig, he sent to Mr. Hosking, who came to his house with a constable, and immediately identified the pig. Bodmin Quarter Sessions: John Penaluna, late of Sithney, labourer, convicted of felony Bodmin 11 March 1845; indicted for stealing a pig (£2) and a sow (£2) property of William Hosken on 14 October transportation, as advised by Privy Council, 7 years. John was an exile as he was tried 19/10/1847 and had spent time in prison in England. He arrived at Moreton Bay and received a TOL in 1850. There were no more records of John in Queensland. John was married to Ann Dunstan, born 1826 Slyhians, Cornwall and died 1913 in College Park, South Australia. They had 3 daughters born in England and then 1 son Benjamin, born in 1857, South Australia. It seems Ann emigrated to Australia with some of her family, they were all miners from Cornwall and became miners in South Australia. John owned the Metropolitan Hotel in Adelaide, and owned about 6 properties in Grote Street, Adelaide. 14/12/1882: John died at College Park, Adelaide.
