Thirty free women and about 40 of their children came on the 'Northampton' in 1815. They included: Martha (Ross) Pennel aka Pennall aka Pennell. Ancestry Convict Indents: The name is unreadable, but trial date corresponds - John Pennall, native place: Dorset. Occupation: Waterman. Aged 47 on arrival, 5'9" tall, fair ruddy complexion, ??? to grey hair, hazel eyes. Colonial Secretary Index: PENNELL, John 1815 Jul 3: Request for ticket of leave for by wife Martha Pennell (Reel 6045; 4/1733 p.163) PENNELL, John. Per "Marquis of Wellington", 1815 1815 Apr 3: Recommended for the Governor's favourable consideration by William Henry Moore; to receive a ticket of leave (Fiche 3172; 4/1849 pp.30-30c) PENNELL, Martha. Wife of John Pennell 1815 Jun 19: On list of persons on board "Northampton" (Reel 6045; 4/1732 p.160) 1815 Jul 3: Praying for ticket of leave her for husband John Pennell (Reel 6045; 4/1733 p.163) No Date: TOL Sydney - Born Devonish 1765. 28/3/1828: COF Daughter Elizabeth Pennell was born C1804 in the UK. Elizabeth came to Australia by herself to join her parents, she married John Ryan in 1842 and she died 9/1/1889 at Dalby, Queensland. John Pennell and Martha returned to the UK upon his release.
