The 1825 Journey. The ship Mariner, Captain Fotherley, arrived from Ireland with female prisoners, on Sunday evening. She left the Cove of Cork, the 12th of March, and brings 112 female prisoners, having lost only one on the passage. A few passengers also came per this opportunity. John Penson was transported for stealing 1 watch, value £1., 1 seal, value 5s., 1 key, value 3d, the property of William Alexander. (Old Bailey 13/9/1815). 18/10/1816:(Colonial Secretary Papers)-John Penson - "Mariner" 1816. On list of convicts disembarked from the Mariner and forwarded to Liverpool for distribution. 28/9/1817: Arrived in VDL per Pilot. 18/18/1823:Hob.Gaz. Received Certificate. 14/7/1826:Col. Times - Convicted in the Supreme Court for Larceny - Robbert at Richard Worley's, a butcher in Elizabeth Street. John was sentenced to death, and was hanged.
