25/3/1814 Stamford Mercury Lincolnshire, England: ROBBERY AT STICKNEY. Wm. Percival, (aged 22,) late of Stickney, laborer, was charged with stealing from the sleeping-room of W. Sharpe, of the same place victualler, three 5l. bills and the half of a 5l. bill, his property. Prisoner slept at prosecutor's home (the Nag's Head) on the 20th of Dec. and next morning, on missing his property, prosecutor went with a constable to search for prisoner, whom they found at East Kirkby. On the constable's hinting to him what was his business, prisoner pulled out the notes and delivered them up - Percival said in his defence, that he was very fresh when he went to bed, and on coming down in the morning found some paper on the floor which on examination [proved to be notes; that he put them into his pocket and went away. Verdict - death but afterward rerieved. Colonial Secretary Papers: PERCIVAL, William. Per "Baring", 1815 1815 Oct 30: Smith. On list of mechanics and labourers to be embarked on the "Emu" for the service of the Government at Port Dalrymple (Reel 6004; 4/3494 pp.253, 258) William was 5'10¼" tall, light brown hiar, blue eyes, and listed as 28 years old on arrival in VDL. 4/9/1821: Tasmania: Had TOL 21/11/1836: CP - Tasmania. No marriage found. 18/8/1839: William died of Consumption (TB) aged 48 - listed as a blacksmith. Registered Hobart.
