Peter Mooney was convicted at Meath on 26 June 1846 for stealing 4 sheep. 10yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Tory' arriving 18 March 1847. Married man; aged 28yrs; farm labourer; Roman Catholic; can read; 5'2 3/4". Native place - Co. Meath, Ireland. Wife: Mary, at native place (ref. Convict Indent) Father: John Mother: Biddy Brothers: Patrick & John Sisters: Biddy & Mary 2 & half years Probation Period. Sent to Darlington, Maria Island (east coast of Tasmania) 22 July 1851: Ticket of Leave granted. 14 June 1853: Conditional Pardon approved. 5 Jan 1878: Died, at Richmond, Tasmania. (ref. noted on Convict record). Inquest into death: Peter Mooney (to Colony per 'Tory'), aged 60 yrs; free by servitude; suicide by drowning. (ref. POL 709/1/15.
