Thomas Phillips and Edward Petty constables in the Sydney Police, stood indicted for an assault on the person of Neil Keenan, a private watchman of Pitt-street. Guilty. (Military Jury.) Edward Pettywas again indicted for robbing the prosecutor Keenan of two half crowns. The prosecutor deposed, that while sitting near the new building of Messrs. Appleton and Bourne, the prisoner came up to him, and without speaking, knocked him down, fell upon him, and rifled his pockets, taking two half crowns therefrom. While struggling with the prisoner, who had his cutlass in his belt, the latter told him, that if he made the least noise or resistance, he would run him through the body. He could not, however, swear positively to the prisoners identity, so as to satisfy the jury of the fact, and the prisoner was acquitted of the charge. Sydney Herald, 27 July 1835. Edward Petty and Thomas Phillips, late of the Sydney Police, stood indicted for Stealing sundry copper monies &c, the property of James Mills.- Not Guilty. Sydney Herald, 6 Aug 1835.
