Emanuel Phillips was transported on the Hercules, departing 24th Dec 1824 and arriving 7th May 1825 with 135 passengers.

The "Hercules" ship was built in 1801 at South Sheilds, England. 1801 voyage from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia. Sailed via Rio de Janeiro and the Cape. A mutiny occurred just prior to their arrival at Rio - after 45 minutes it was quashed but 13 convicts had been killed. Jeremiah Pendergass was named as the ring leader and shot. 44 deaths in total on this voyage. There was then another ship, also named, "Hercules" built 1822 at Whitby, England who made 3 trips to Austraia, in 1825, 1830 & 1832.

ADM 101/34/1 Diary of the convict ship Hercules, which sailed from England to New South Wales, from 26 November 1824 to 10 May 1825 by Michael Goodsir, surgeon and superintendent. Folios 16-17: Emanuel Phillips, convict, aged 19; disease or hurt, severe purging and griping which has troubled him for several days. Taken ill, 25 February 1825. Discharged 10 April 1825.

Emanuel Phillips was born in London in 1807 - he was 160cm tall, pale ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, nearly bald, dark hazel eyes, large nose, S & P and EP tattooed on left arm. Emanuel was in a group of 3 young males who stole a half-full tea chest of tea from a warehouse, he had told the police that he was an orange seller and that he was hired by two ment to carry the chest, not knowing that it was stolen. Assigned to the Prisoners' Barracks in Sydney on arrival. 22/8/1826: Emanuel Phillips, was charged with stealing a loaf of bread from a cart. He wa remanded for punishment and was sentenced to work in chains for 3 months. 1828 Census: A shepherd in government service in the region of Bathurst. 14/1/1841: COF
