Mary ux William Phillips, tried at Assizes for County of Warwick, 8 Aug 1789, 7 years. --------------------------------------------------------------- On Wednesday the assize for this county ended at Warwick. … Mary Phillips, for robbing Mr. Tranter of five guineas, and other money, are all to be transported ; Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 17 Aug 1789.

Family connections for Mary (Phillips) are: NORTON Mary (Phillips/Norton) was born about 1763. She married firstly ??? (Norton). She was tried at Warwick Assizes, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship MARY ANN. She married secondly John/Job (Pye) on 11 12 1791 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 8children. She was Free by Servitude by 1798. She is recorded in 1806 as Mary (Pye) wife of John at Parramatta with 7children. She is recorded in 1828 with her family at Seven Hills. She died on 8 2 1843age about78 mother of 8known children. He was tried for arson at Warwick Assizes 0n 31 7 1790, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship BRITANNIA. In Smees records he is always recorded as Job (Pye). On 30 12 1796 he was granted 20acres at Toongabbie Baulkham Hills, where he produced wool. He was Free by Servitude by 1798. In 1802 he was granted 30acres more. He named his farm 'Pye farm'. He is recorded in 1806 as John (Pye) husband of Mary at Parramatta with 7children. He built & operated the Lamb & Lark Inn on Pyes corner Parramatta-Windsor Rd Baulkham Hills-which much later became the Bull & Buck hotel. He is recorded in 1828 as farmer with his family at Seven Hills with 1,210acres. He died on 22 9 1830 age61/3, leaving the Lamb & Lark Inn to son John. Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref P1461] Pye, John, 60, CF(?), Brittania 1791, Farmer at Seven Hills. 1210 acres, 260 cleared, 100 cultivated, 20 horses, 762 cattle, 100 sheep. (Doing very nicely thankyou! Seems to have forgotten he was transported?) [Ref P1462] Pye, Mary, 65, CF(?), Mary Ann, 1791. Also James 25, Sarah, 27, Elizabeth 23 and Jane 21, all Born in the colony and all living at home. Nearby:- Joseph 32 [Ref P1435] Landholder with his wife and family. John (jnr) 31 [Ref P1447] Publican with wife and family. Thomas 29 [P1452] Farmer single. The other child, Mary had died, aged 13 in 1813.

Mary was tried, convicted and transported using her married name. She is so recorded in the 1802 muster. However, by the 1806 muster she is recorded as Mary Pye. [A3598] Mary Pye, Mary Ann, FBS, with John Pye at Parramatta. [C0996] Mary Pye, Mary Ann, married NSW, 3 male children, 4 female children (all legitimate).
