1832-33: During this time he absconded several times and in November of 1833 he was sent to Port Arthur as punishment, where he was "to be kept to hard labour for two years". 1840,11 July: Absalom PHIPPS died at Port Arthur (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-35$init=CON31-1-35p100).


CRIME: Absalom/Absolam PHIPPS, a labourer, was convicted at Gloucester on 17 October 1831 for "stealing on a boat on a navigable river" and was sentenced to transportation for seven years. He was admitted to the prison hulk Justitia at Woolwich on 5 November 1831 and sent from there on 11 February for transportation. He was 16, and born in 1815, according to the hulk record (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832: On arrival in VDL, Absalom PHIPPS was 17, a labourer and single. He was 5’2” tall with a fair complexion, reddish brown hair and hazel eyes (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-10$init=CON18-1-10p44).
