Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

13/4/1839 Leeds Times Yorkshire, England: WEST RIDING SESSIONS Miles Pickles 25, previously convicted, stealing eight hempen sheets, at Dewsbury, property of John France. Miles Pickles was listed as 25 years old in the newspaper report, but was listed as 19 years old on arrival in VDL on 11/8/1842. Miles was 5'6¾" tall, ruddy complexion, brown hair and eyes, can read, 2 scars on top lip, 5 scars on forehead, scar corner of eyebrow, 2 scars side of neck, 9 moles on back of neck, large scar on breast, scar at the top of 3rd forefinger each hand. 11/10/1843: Extended term of Probation expired. (Term was extended for absconding). 21/10/1848: COF (newspaper date).
