UPDATES to above Margaret (Dowse/Douce/Daws) was born on 14 9 1815 & baptised on 26 5 1822 age6 w/Isaac, Elizabeth at St Peters CofE Campbelltown. She became Matron at Bathurst Gaol on 1 4 1846. She died on 4 11 1852 age37. John Giles (Chippendall/ale) was born in 1809 at Liverpool Lancashire & baptised in 1809. He arrived in Australia free in 1815 on HEBE & in Bathurst in 1845 from Sydney. He became Governor Bathurst Gaol 1845-67 & lived at Governors residence at Gaol & then Stewart St. He married secondly Alice Susan (Read her second marriage) on 28 4 1859 at Bathurst. He was an active member of Church of England & on 2 4 1852 he was elected among others to a committee to revive & promote a subscription list for establishment of a CofE schoolhouse. He was a comber ploughman farmer for William (Lee) & himself living at Kelso Campbells River; he lived on a leased farm at junction of Davys Creek & Campbells River where Chifley Dam was built, growing produce for barter or to take by cart to Bathurst for sale. He had altercations with his neighbours, notably in 1851, 6, &7 In 1856 he was a member of Thomas Sutcliffe (Mort)s campaign committee for West Macquarie electorate. He checked out the Ophir gold diggings, but was dissuaded from joining the diggers when his horse was stolen. Henry, along with Charles Peck, was tried and convicted at the Old Bailey on 20th October 1831 for pocketpicking, both were sentenced to transportation for 7 years, he was 14 years old. Left England on 12th March 1833. Ship:- the 'Waterloo' sailed with 214 male convicts on board of which 11 died during the voyage. Arrived on 3rd August 1833. Married free sttler Mary Short on 31st October 1850 at White Rock near Bathurst, they had 12 children between1812-1872. Henry Pleffer died on 17th April 1898 at Petersham, NSW aged 81. HENRY PLEFFER and CHARLES EDWARD PECK were indicted for stealing, on the 22nd of October , 1 handkerchief, value 4s., the goods of David Thomas Deane , from his person . JOHN BURTON . I live in North-place, Gray's Inn-road. On the afternoon of the 22nd of October I saw the prisoners in Gray's Inn-road, in company with another boy - they looked into two or three shops; they then saw the prosecutor, and tried his pocket in Verulam-buildings - they followed him, and tried again and again, and just as he was going into Holborn , they got his handkerchief out - Pleffer went to put it into his bosom; I seized his arm - he slipped from me: Rierdon was just by, and took him; I knew the prisoners before, and am certain of their persons. Peck. I know nothing of Pleffer - you did not see me with him. Witness. Yes, I did; I saw you at nine o'clock in the morning, and this was about eleven - you were close at his elbow. WILLIAM COLTON . I live in High-street, Islington, and am a broker. I followed the prisoners out of Gray's Inn-road - I came up just as Rierdon took Pleffer, and I took Peck; I saw the three boys together for two hours - the other got away. DAVID THOMAS DEANE . I live in Cloudesley-terrace. This handkerchief is mine; I had it in my pocket in Gray's Inn-road - I saw Pleffer throw it down, but I was not conscious of its being taken; I was not aware that they were following me. DANIEL RIERDON . I was passing promiscuously, and saw the prisoners in company, and another boy with them- they were behind the prosecutor; I secured Pleffer - he threw the handkerchief down. Pleffer. I have no father, and was so hungry I was forced to do it; Peck was not with me. PLEFFER - GUILTY . Aged 14. PECK - GUILTY . Aged 16. Transported for Seven Years .
