James PORTER was convicted at Middlesex, London on 16 Oct 1834 for stealing corn and hay. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Aurora" arriving 8 Oct 1835. Ship surgeon's report: "well behaved". Married man, 3 children. Wife Elizabeth at native place - Hamstead. A groom and coachman; aged 26 yrs; 5'6 3/4" height; sallow complexion; black hair; grey eyes. Colony of VDL: Assigned to work services. Free Certificate 1841, no. 796.
