(ref. 52/1/7) (Note: Remarriages were permitted with the Colony, if approved by Govt.) 2 May 1856: Marriage. At St. Luke's Church of England, Richmond, Tasmania - John POST, full age, labourer to Ellen LANE, full age. (Ref. 37/1/15 no. 848) (St. Luke's Church still at Richmond in 2017) 6 April 1870: Death of wife Ellen, at General Hospital, Hobart.Cause - tuberculosis. Aged 42 yrs, servant. Born London. (ref. 35/1/7 no. 9229) 30 June 1884: John POST died at New Town Pauper Establishment, Hobart. Noted as born England. Aged 79yrs, male, labourer. Cause - Senilis. (ref. 35/1/10 no. 1711)




John POST was convicted at Folkstone, Kent, England on 16 April 1841 for stealing a sheep. (Also convicted for same offence Allen & transported on same ship). One previous conviction. 15yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Somersetshire' arriving 30 May 1842. Aged 37yrs; farm labourer; 5'7 1/4"; ruddy complexion; greyish hair; blue eyes; Protestant. Married man - wife Charlotte living at Allington with their 7 children. (ref. as stated & recorded on Convict Indent upon arrival in VDL). Native place of birth: Merlham 2yrs Probation in the Colony of VDL. Station Gang: Jersulem (north of Hobart) 1842: Remarks - "good". 11 July 1848: Ticket of Leave granted. 1848: Meritorious conduct recorded as he assisted in the capture of absconded convicts. 1849: at Jersulem, VDL. 1850: at Darlington, Maria Island (off east coast of Tasmania) 2 Oct 1850: Ticket of Leave revoked as he was absent from Muster. 3mths hard labour. 1850: at Clarence Plains (eastern shore of Hobart) 18 Feb 1851: Ticket of Leave restored. 20 May 1859: Conditional Pardon approved.
