"My 2x great grandfather. William Poultney is likely to have been born Powney or Poney. He had an impediment of speech recorded in his convict records - which may have caused the confusion. He is not related to Thomas Poultney from Warwickshire."

Worcester Herald 24th March 1821 page 3 column 3 Thomas CORBET and William POULTNEY, otherwise PONEY, charged with breaking into the dwelling house of Thomas WILSON of Droitwich and stealing there a quantity of bacon and wearing apparel. Native of Worchester, Farmer (impediment of speech), aged 25, 5'6", grey eyes & brown hair
