Convict Notes




Removal of Transports.—On Monday last, the following convicts were removed from our county gaol to Milbank: —Geo. Preece, for sheepstealing (ten years' transportation); Wm. Bethell, for house-breaking, (ditto); Thos. Jackson, burglary (ditto) Wm. Harris, burglary (ditto); Edward Price, burglary (seven years' transportation). Hereford Times. 9 Oct 1847.

George Preece was sentanced to 10 years for sheep stealing in July 7th 1847 aged 25 years a Labourer he stole 4 ewes and lambs the property of Mrs.Tully of Huntington, the prisoner Preece was further charged with having stolen in November last, three ewes, the property of Mr Joseph Tunstall of Burghill and sentenced to transportation to Van Diemans Land where he then lived at Bishopsbourne Tasmania and married Elizabeth Wadley 14-12-1859.He got his ticket of leave 27-10-1857 and conditional pardon 18-9-1860. They had 8 children William, Sally, George, Tom, Percy, Elizabeth, Ethel and Frank in 1880.
