JOSEPH PURCELL 's IRISH CRIME: Freemans Journal, Saturday, February 08, 1817; Page: 4 "Joseph PURCELL, the noted swindler, pleaded guilty to a number of indictments, and was sentenced to be transported for 7 years" Aboard "Dapne" he was recorded as being an Attorney's Clerk. PeRSONAL DETAILS: Height in 5 feet 8 & 1/2 inches Complexion: Dark pale; Hair: Black; Eyes: Dark; CONvicted - Session: Summer, 1818, at Meath




Joseph arrived in NSW on 21/9/1819 and then went on to VDL on the same date, per ‘Admiral Cockburn’. His occupation was an 'Attorney clerk'. 6/3/1821: VDL – was an “Accessory to a robbery in the dwelling house of Alfred Thrupp – to be transported to Newcastle for 5 years. Per "Daphne", 1819 1819 Oct 11: Re his complaints that provisions were not adequately supplied for convicts on board the "Daphne" (Reel 6006; 4/3500 p.289) 1821 May 28: On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle per "Snapper" (Reel 6008; 4/3504 p.37) 23/1/1823: Church of England Burials Register Book 1821 - 1825 - University of Newcastle: Joseph drowned, aged 24.
