Michael Purcell arrived per "Anne" in 1801, sentenced to 7 years transportation in March 1798 (BEFORE the May outbreak of rebellion in Ireland) for burglariously entering a delling house. He was charged with another Purcell (William) and towo Tynans, but he was teh only one who arrived in NSW. IRISH CRIME: Freemans Journal, Monday 23 April 1798 page 5 "Extract of a letter from Clonmell, April 7 “By a gentleman who arrived in town from Cork this morning, we are informed that a desperate affray took place near that city, between a party of the military and a number of insurgents …. “Also committed to the county jail. Thomas Tynan, Michael Tynan, Michael Purcell and William Purcell, charged with burglariously entering the dwelling house of Mr Thomas Fogarty, of Drom, on the morning of the 28th of March last, between the hours of one and two o’clock, and taking thereout cash and several other articles of value.” MICHAEL PURCELL in NSW: * Arrived per Anne February 1801 * 1806 muster - Prisoner on Town Gang, Sydney * 1811 muster - Convict in NSW * 1817 - Death 31 August 1817.
