NATIVE PLACE: Nottingham. He was single (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P495). CRIME: He was tried on 17 October 1831 for stealing a pair of candle snuffers (according to the Dictionary of Old Occupations and Jobs at https://www.familyresearcher.co.uk candle snuffers could have a small metal cup that was used to smother the flame, or a scissor-like tool which was used to trim candle wicks).
