Stephen Radford was born 1809 in England.. in 1853 he left his wife Jane Morris and a number of children in Tasmania and went searching his fortune on the goldfields according to family story.. He never returned to Jane and the children and appeared to just disappear from his life in Tasmania...The Stephen Radford that everyone is picking up that died in 1897 in Tasmania is not him..it is a child of another couple.. The story also goes that he went with a William Raid and he adopted the son Stephen Radford took with him (true i don't know) havent been able to collaborate that one or get history on a William Raid either. Its a mystery. I have checked Vic records and NSW records to no avail. I have also checked Ballarat, Geelong, Bendigo cemetery records with no luck.

I cannot find a death record for Stephen Radford in Tasmania, or Victoria. Stephen he may have changed his name to George Radford when he went to the Ballarat Goldfield's.

Stephen Radford was 19 years old on arrival in VDL. Father: Henry Radford Mother: Sarah West. Stepehn was 5'5¼" tall, light blue eyes, light brown hair, pale complexion, single. 1830-32: Public Works 1833: Gaol 24/5/1838: TOL 24/1/1849: TOL revoked - caught stealing. 24/8/1840: Married Jane Morris (Atwick 1838)at Green Ponds and they had 6 children. 20/9/1853: Left Launceston per 'Pirate' to Geelong. Stephen is believed to have travelled to the goldfields in Victoria and may have ended up in Western Australia, and although there is a death listed on the BDM there for a Stephen Radford, there was another Stephen Radford who arrived in WA as a convict per Pyrenees 1851. By this time Jane had bigamously married John Stone on 7/2/1853 in Tasmania and they also had 6 children. Jane died 20/2/1912 and was buried at Penguin Cemetery, Tasmania.
