1839: Pierre Louis RAVOUL is listed as having a black complexion, medium head, black woolly hair, oval visage, high forehead, black eyebrows, black eyes, medium nose, large mouth and medium chin; scar across bridge of nose (see Tasmania, Australia, Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899; Register; Description lists of convicts convicted locally or arriving on non-convict ships, 1832-1842).


1839, 19 October: Pierre Louis RAOUL is on a list of prisoners sentenced for transportation from Port Louis, Mauritius, to Van Diemen’s Land by the Criminal Court of the Colony of Mauritius. A letter accompanying this record, signed by the Colonial Secretary of Mauritius (G.F. Dick), and addressed to the Colonial Secretary of VDL, says the convicts have been embarked on the "Water Witch" for "conveyance to Van Diemen's Land, their place of transportation, and... their passage has been paid from the Public Treasury of this Colony [Mauritius]." He is described as: single, aged 37, a servant; tried for highway robbery at the Assizes on 25 September, 1839, and sentenced to 7 years; copper complexion, brown eyes and brown hair; 5'3 ½”; native place Bourbon; cannot read or write (see New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1840 LAYTON).




Married man, wife and 4 children at Port Louis. Assignments in Colony of VDL. 1/11/1841:Suspicion of harbouring absentee boys. 7 days solitary confinement.
