Family connections for Samuel (Rawson) are: RAWSON Joseph (Rawson) & Elizabeth (Mather) produced 2children: 1.Richard (Rawson) was born in 1791. He was a labourer; he was convicted with his brother Samuel in 1818 at Nottingham Quarter Sessions for stealing clothing linen food & sentenced to 7years, arriving in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1819 after a voyage of 5months on BARING. He was 5'4.25" dark sallow complexion dark brown hair dark eyes. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom on 20 10 1825, which was renewed on 18 2 1833. ..[Some details taken from this Website] 2.Samuel (Rawson) was born on 16 12 1795 at Winkburn Nottinghamshire. He was a blacksmith; he was convicted with his brother Richard in 1818 at Nottingham Quarter Sessions for stealing clothing linen food & sentenced to 7years, arriving in NSW as a convict on 19 10 1819 after a voyage of 4months (or 5 2 1820-8months) on ATLAS. On 13 4 1822 he was charged with 1other for drunkenness & turbulent conduct & sentenced to 75lashes & returned? to Port Macquarie-he was assigned to Shell Gang on the flatt at Field of Mars. He was a blacksmith when he married firstly Elizabeth (Brown) on 7 9 1825 in Sydney-Smees records show 5 12 1825 at St James CofE Sydney-& was issued his Certificate of Freedom in October of this year. Parramatta Magistrates. Date, April 13 1822. Samuel Rawson, bond. Per Atlas, charged together with Jas. Wilcock, bond, per Hebe, Nature of offence: Charged with drunkenness and turbulent conduct at their Gang, and being incorrgible. Sentence of the board: Rawson to receive 75 lashes and Wilcock to receive 100 lashes and be returned to Port Macquarie for the remainder of his sentence, being incorrigible. Remarks: Assigned to the Shell Gang on the flatts, Field of Mars.
