The Police. WEDNESDAY, JULY 12. - James Reid, ship Lonarch, complained against his master, Mr. Robinson, a very old and esteemed farmer, on the South Creek. The servant acknowledged that he actually received the following ration, viz. 4lbs. of pork, 1lb. of sugar, 2 oz. of tea, and 10lbs. of flour, but that he the last week only received 9lbs. of flour. Mr. Robinson stated to the Court that he might receive an additional quantity of flour, on account of his wages, if he thought proper, and that when he informed the prisoner to that effect, he answered him most insubordinately, "Yes, by J----s, if I pay for it;" and that he actually gave the prisoner the usual quantity of 10lbs. of flour, but owing to his sullenness in not taking it into his own care when weighed to him, some deficiency had taken place. Mr. R. again weighed it in the presence of the prisoner, and it had lost an ounce by the neglect, in allowing it to be tossed about. The prisoner had also demanded two dollars from his master, saying, "I am going to Church, will you let me have two dollars?" Upon being refused, his morose temper burst forth, which terminated in insolence and insubordination, and an attack upon his master's character. The prisoner had also said he should like to be returned to Government. Sentenced 28 days to the tread-mill. Sydney Gazette, 22 Jul 1826.
