Margaret Ryan was tried & convicted at Tipperary on 23 July 1851 for arson & sentenced to 7 years transportation to VDL. She left Dublin on 17 November 1852 & arrived on the "Midlothian" in Hobart on 24 February 1853. She was a housemaid, Roman Catholic, could read & write, was 5'4" tall, had a fresh complexion, black hair, an oval face, with hazel eyes & a long large nose. She had a blue mark on right arm & her native place was Tipperary. She had an illegitimate child on 5 April 1854, married William Nobes on 3 December 1855, & received her Ticket of Leave on 10 July 1855 which was revoked for absenteeism on 20 October 1857. She received a Conditional Pardon on 9 October 1860.
