The First Fleet consisted of two Royal Navy escort ships, HMS Sirius and HMS Supply accompanied by six convict transports, the Alexander, Charlotte, Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales and the Scarborough, and three store ships, the Borrowdale, Fishburn and Golden Grove. CHARLES REPEAT was a convict in the first fleet ship “ Alexander” arriving in Sydney Cove on 26th January 1788. He was aged 21 years. He was tried on 21 March 1785 in Warwick, for housebreaking and theft. After being given the death sentence he was reprieved to transportation for seven years. Age: 21 years on 1787 indents (born 1767) Occupation; button stamper Derby Mercury - Thursday 24 March 1785 p 4 “On Wednesday night the Assizes ended for the county of Warwick when the following convicts received sentence of Death Viz, Chatburn, … Elis Green, … Samuel Packwood, … Samuel Smith, … John Slight alias John Browne, … John Shardlowe. “JAMES CORDEN, MARTIN STONE and CHARLES REPEAT, for breaking open the dwelling house of Joseph Beazley in the Parish of Aston and stealing two gowns etc. —— The first seven of whom are left for execution and the others reprieved.” Charles Repeat was one of the convicts married with approval of the governor in February shortly after arriving at Port Jackson: Charles Repeat, made his mark; & Lucy Wood, Signed; Married 17 Feb 1788, registered St Philips Church of England Sydney by Richard Johnson, Chaplain; Witness: John Owles. Lucy was also called Lucy Brand (perhaps her married name) Tried at Old Bailey 1786 Arrived per “Lady Penrhyn” 1788. Aged 34 years [Born 1753]. Lacemaker Married (1) Charles Repeat 1788 Married (2) Robert Lawrence 1817 Had one child (to Charles Repeat?) Died in Tasmania 1820 1805 - Charles Repeat - Constable, Norfolk Island. Class: Sentences Expired, Victualling: On Stores Appears to have been with the settlers and convicts removed from Norfolk Island to Tasmania. 1811, March - Convicted: Mar 1785 Warwick, arrived per “Alexander” Status: Convict; Occupation/Residence &c, Hobart. DIED 1816, Tasmania. Farmer, Labourer; Children: 1; Died: 1816, Died at Tasmania
