continued HARMSWORTH Thomas (Harmsworth) married Alice (??? her first marriage) in 1780 in Herefordshire. He arrived in NSW as a marine private with his family on 22 1 1788 after a voyage of 9months on First Fleet ship PRINCE OF WALES. He died on 30 4 1788 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. Alice (???/Harmsworth) arrived in NSW with her family on 22 1 1788 after a voyage of 9months on First Fleet ship PRINCE OF WALES. She married secondly Daniel (Stanfield) on 15 10 1791 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She apparantly took her children to Norfolk Island about 1791, arriving on 4 11 1791. She is recorded as free off stores on Norfolk Island in February 1805. She left Norfolk Island with her family on CITY OF EDINBURGH as part of the first evacuation on 3 9 1808, arriving on 5 10 1808 & settled at Green Point/Bridgewater. She had a relationship with Samuel (Marsden his second relationship) whom she married on 19 1 1800 recorded at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She is recorded as off stores on Norfolk Island in February 1805. ..Samuel (Marsden) was born about 1778. He enlisted in NSW Corps in UK as a private on 22 8 1789. He arrived in NSW as a soldier on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship SURPRISE; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. He arrived on Norfolk Island on 11 2 1793, perhaps on KITTY. In 1794 he was granted 100acres at Field of Mars. He had a first relationship with Rachel (Early/Price her second relationship). In 1798 he was detached to (Townson)s company & in this year he leased 5acres6rods at Parramatta. In 1799 he was granted 100acres at Dundas. In 1800 he was detached to (Foveaux)s company & was on Norfolk Island in 1801. In 1803 he was granted 335more acres at Field of Mars (being a consolidation of properties run by 4others (T (Cottrel), T (Tynan), C (Smith) & J (Thomson)- who probably lost their livelihood in favour of the military. He is recorded as a private NSW Corps on Norfolk Island in February 1805. He was still with (Foveaux)s company on Norfolk Island in 1808 when he was detached to (Lamb)s company. In 1809 he was detached to (McArthur)s company then 8company. In 1810 he was detached to Veterans Company. He died on 25 2 1830 age52 father of 8children. ..[Rachel (Earley/Early/Hurley/Harley/Arley/Alley/Yearley) was born in 1762/69. She was tried for stealing tea etc at Reading Berkshire Quarter Sessions on 24 7 1786, sentenced to 7years, held on DUNKIRK hulk, & arrived in NSW as a convict on 2 11 1788 after a voyage of 7.5months on First Fleet ship FRIENDSHIP; she was apparantly the cause of some trouble on the ship, placed in irons for a time & transferred to PRINCE OF WALES on 28 10 1788 at Cape of Good Hope. She had firstly married John (Price) on 1 6 1788 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She arrived on Norfolk Island on 13 10 1788 on GOLDEN GROVE with her husband; while here she was sentenced to 10lashes, described as 'a most abandoned woman'. He was tried for receiving stolen goods at Kent Assizes on 4 8 1802 & sentenced to 14 years. He petitioned, on 15 3 1803 ie while sailing on convict ship, to serve again with Admiral (Nelson) without success & arrived at Port Phillip (Victoria) on 4 10 1803 after a voyage of 8months on HMS CALCUTTA (an expedition that settled in Tasmania); he worked as seaman on the ship. He arrived at Port Phillip (Victoria) on 4 10 1803 after a voyage of 7+months on OCEAN (supply ship with HMS CALCUTTA) (an expedition that settled in Tasmania); he would hve camped at what is now Sorrento/Sullivans Bay. He volunteered to assist as one of 6rowers on a voyage in an open boat from 6 11 1803, from Port Phillip to Port Jackson to advise the Governor of unsuitability of Port Phillip, arriving in November 1803 on OCEAN which had overtaken the much bothered boat & provided passage. He is stated at his marriage & the birth of his second child as having arrived on 24 11 1803 on HMS GLATTON (maybe the ship which carried him to Tasmania). On 18 12 1805 he was granted Conditional Emancipation for his efforts on the rowing journey. In 1816 he had a grant of 30acres at Kangaroo Point Derwent River Hobart & became a waterman-the first in Van Diemens Land (Tasmania). In 1817 his ferry boat was subject to stealing attempt by escaping bushranger Michael (Howe). In August 1816 he refused to ferry a Mr (Stocker) publican across the Derwent late at night, for which he was reprimanded. He was recorded in 1819 as a productive farmer. His ferry boat was involved in an accident on 24/30 9 1819 resulting in death of passenger Benjamin (Briscoe). He seems to have been the operator of the Hobart to Kissing Point ferry on 24/30 9 1819 which capsized nr Kangaroo Point causing fatalities. His ferry licence was confirmed on 11 1 1823. On 30 1 1834 he was fined for assaulting and beating Constable (Anderson) at Kangaroo Point. In September 1834 he unsuccessfully brought a case against a William (Morgan) & ordered to pay costs. He made his Will in January 1841 benefitting his wife & his second son after her death. In 1842 he was recorded as a productive farmer with 3children. He died on 18 4 1842 gradual decay of nature age about77/97. He was tried for mutiny at Court Martial on HMS GLADIATOR, sentenced to 7years, held on hulk CAPTIVITY & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 12 1801 after a voyage of 6.5months on Fleet ship CANADA; he was Catholic. He arrived on Norfolk Island in 1801 according to Ref:'People...'. He left Norfolk Island in 1804 according to this Website. He was Free by Servitude by 1811 & his Ticket of Leave was issued on 18 7 1811. With his son in law John (Robinson) & father Charles (Robinson who worked at the Government Stockyard at Cowpastures/Liverpool), in 1820, he purchased stray Government cattle (those that had been imported from South Africa, strayed or been stolen from the original settlement & later found at Cowpastures (hence the name)), & moved them to Pambula where the (Robinson)s established Honeysuckle Farm. He was discharged as a marine in Sydney on October 1791 & married Alice (Mansfield/Harmsworth her second marriage) on 15 10 1791 at St Phillips CofE Sydney-recorde also at Norfolk Island-& went to Norfolk Island on 26 10 1791 with NSW Corps arriving on 4 11 1791 with his wife & 3children. In 1791 he was granted 60acres. He enlisted in NSW Corps on 27 11 1794 as a private. In 1796 he was leasing 60acres (he is recorded as Daniel (Standfield) holding plots 1&2 of 60acres each on southwest coast near Phillipsburg. In 1798 he was detached to (Paterson)s company until his discharge on 24 12 1799. In 1804 he sought to remain on Norfolk Island despite embarkations. He is recorded as a settler landholder with 120acres 240sheep off stores on Norfolk Island in February 1805. He owned 204acres when he left Norfolk Island with his family on CITY OF EDINBURGH as part of the first evacuation (for which volunteers apparantly had been called with appropriate compensation offerred & for which he may have tried to decline as some successful farmers were asked to stay) on 3 9 1808 (although Governor (King), in 1804, had recommended he be allowed to stay as a successful farmer triggering doubt in the other volunteers that leaving was the best idea), arriving on 5 10 1808; to Derwent Tasmania; he settled on land granted at Green Point/Bridgewater. He became a pastoralist in Van Diemens Land (Tasmania). It is possibly he who, with Edward & William (Kimberley) & William (Nicholls), was robbed of 200 sheep by William Henry (Morgan) at Tin Dish Holes near York Plains on 16 2 1819. He died in 1826 at Hobart. Alice/Ellis (Mansfield/Harmsworth) married firstly Thomas (Harmsworth) in 1780 in Herefordshire & produced 3children. She arrived in Australia with her family on 22 1 1788 after a voyage of 9months on First Fleet ship PRINCE OF WALES. She went to Norfolk Island arriving on 4 11 1791. She is recorded as free off stores on Norfolk Island in February 1805. He was tried at Surrey Assizes/Maidstone Kent, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship ADMIRAL BARRINGTON. He would have been Free by Servitude by 1798. He trained as a boatbuilder & helped 34ton sloop DIANA in 1798/9. He later became involved in the sealing trade & with partners Henry (Kable FRIENDSHIP 1788) & Simeon (Lord ATLANTIC 1791) bought the DIANA. He traded in George St Sydney. He married firstly (1of5) Mary (Kendall her first relationship) on 20 1 1793 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He left the partnership about 1808 after a trading visit to London with Simeon (Lord) on his convict ship SYDNEY COVE with much litigation. He had a second relationship (2of5) from about 1801 with Philadelphia (Pounds). He is recorded in 1806 as John (Underwood) with his family. On 26 2 1811 he had to explain consignment of wine landed from UNION (owned by his brother) without his knowledge at Hobart. In June 1812 he opened the St George Coffee (perhaps dispensing liquor) Lounge. He held a spirit licence & may have run a hotel in 1813. He, Pardoned, married fourthly (4of5) Mary Ann (Powell age16) on 2 6 1812 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He had land at Petersham in 1822. In 1823&5 he established the Sydney distillery between Old South Head Road and Rushcutters Bay with Robert (Cooper) and F E (Forbe). He married fifthly Elizabeth (Shu/e/irwell/Sovell) emancipist on 26 11 1825 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. In 1828 he possessed 100acres & his property in Sydney.
