The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Family connections for Thomas (Reynolds) are: REYNOLDS Thomas (Reynolds) was born about 1787/98 in Ireland & became a shoemaker. He was tried at Somerset Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 1 1 1818 after a voyage of 4.5months on OCEAN. He married Mary Ann (Thorn) on 18 7 1820 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He was Free by Servitude by 1821. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary Ann (Thorn) was born on 8 11 1798 & baptised on 11 11 1798 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She is recorded in 1806 & 1814, off stores, with her mother. She died on 10 6 1831 age32. Details of Mary Ann (Thorn)s family are given in entry for Humphrey (Thorn NEPTUNE 1790) on this Website. Thomas (Reynolds) & Mary Ann (Thorn) produced 2children: 1.Elizabeth Mary (Richards) was born on 18 5 1821 at Rooty Hill & baptised on 9 9 1821 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She died on 1 8 1894 age age73. 2.Rebecca (Reynolds) was born on 8 5 1824 at Parramatta& baptised on 13 6 1824 at St Johns CofE Parramatta.
