Richard Cook was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 13th Jul 1829 and arriving 14th Dec 1829 with 200 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Richard Cook was 25 years old on arrival in VDL - Born Whitchurch, Salop. Richard was 5' 6 1/2" tall, light brown eyes, brown hair and whiskers, pale complexion, single. Occupation: Tinman and Labourer. 1830-1835 Musters: Assigned to Captain Fenton. By 1836: TOL 7/2/1840: CP 29/12/1841 - 13/5/1842 - 18/7/1843: Permission to marry Mary Maher (Mary Anne 1841). 21/8/1843: Married - 2 children, Mary Ann Cook born 10/10/1845, Son born 31/12/1846 - both born Hobart. 1843: Free Certificate. 30/12/1852: Steerage passenger, Launceston to Melbourne per 'Yarra Yarra'.
