Convict Notes
1831, 17 October: Richard Haggarty, 17, was convicted at Chester for stealing from a dwelling house and sent to the prison hulk Cumberland on 6 November. There he was listed as Richard Haggerty. 1832, 14 February: He was sent from the hulk for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 18, a labourer, and was assigned to Mr GC Clarke. His Conduct Record notes that his original sentence of seven years was extended by three years, presumably for a felony (no other details are given) committed in 1834 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-20$init=CON31-1-20p159). 1840, 16 October: He was granted a Ticket of Leave. 1841: He received his Free Certificate.
