1831, 11 August: Convicted at the Chester Summer Assizes for burglary and sentenced to death, commuted to transportation for life (see England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892). 1831, 6 November: Admitted to Justitia prison hulk moored at Woolwich; sent from there on 10 February for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 22, single and a labourer. He was assigned to John Best. 1834: Imprisoned for three months' with hard labour on the Bridgewater Chain Gang for neglect of duty in his assignment to John Best. He was not returned to service. 1843: Granted a Ticket of Leave. 1845, 22 May: Received a Conditional Pardon (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-37$init=CON31-1-37p96).
