John Roach was 18 years old when tried at the Old Bailey for stealing, on the 14th August 1826, one handkerchief, value, 5s., the goods of John Denny Clunn, from his person. John had been in gaol before. Tasmanian records say John was born 1806 and was 21 years old on arrival. He had tattoos, scars, brown eyes and hair, was 5'6 1/2" tall, single, mother in St Bartholomews hospital. He was last in White Crop Street, protestant and his occupation was a "Woman's shoemaker". 1830: Assigned to Mr Stephenson 1832-33: Assigned to Mr Betts 19/8/1834: Colonial Conviction at Launceston. 1835 muster: Public Works. 1842: Free Certificate.
