Was from Bishop Aukland, Durham. His mother and father were tried the same year for similar crime. His mother was sent to Durham gaol. The family had a large Hotel and may have been targeted by rivals. Robert was married with 1 or 2 children, to Sarah Forrest. She is described as having screamed in the court when his sentence was read out. Robert was the subject of a petition for alleviation of severity of his sentence, signed by the businesses and tradesmen of Bishop Aukland. It is not yet known what became of Robert after his ticket of leave in about 1853. Research continues.
