Convict Notes

March 23. CROWN COURT…. George Kendal, aged 22, and Robert Robinson, aged 20, were found guilty of assaulting William Flint, and, taking from his person a silver watch, and pocketbook, Containing four bank notes for 5£. each, and some bills of exchange to the amount of ? As the prosecutor was returning home from York market on the 6th of September, he was stopped in a narrow lane by the prisoners who showed him a him a pocket-book, which they said they had found, and asked him if he had lost one. He foolishly searched his pocket, and took out his pocketbook; in order to convince himself that he had not lost it, and thus gave the thieves an opportunity of seeing that he would be a profitable object of attack. They left him, and as he proceeded further through the lane he was. knocked down and robbed, It appeared in evidence that the prisoners were seen together that evening, apparently waiting for some person at place where the prosecutor (an old man) was attacked. Sentence of DEATH was recorded against them. Morning Herald, 26 March 1824.
