Birthdate is approximate. John Roberts was convicted at the age of 17. His crime was burglary of a woman called Dorothy Jones. Cause of death: killed by his stepson, Duncan Clark, with an axe handle, in self defence of himself and his mother Mary Roberts, formerly Clark, nee McGregor. Roberts had knocked 16 year old Duncan Clark to the ground and started kicking him after an argument about chores. Roberts then choked his wife Mary, who had tried to intervene, until she was unconscious, causing Duncan Clark to come to her defence. Duncan Clark was tried but found innocent as he was acting in self defence and defending the life of his mother.
