Joseph Roberts was convicted at York, England on 4 Mar 1820 for Burglary. Life sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Juliana' 1820. Gaol Report: very bad Hulk Report: bad Father & mother at 9 Silver Street, Assignment in Colony. 24 Feb 1825: absent from his hut. 25 lashes. 31 Jan 1827: charge of assaulting fellow prisoner. 2 Jan 1828: charge of assaulting fellow prisoner. 12mths in a Chain Gang. 1 July 1836: Conditional Pardon granted, no. 882. 21 July 1837: Special permission given by Governor for Joseph to proceed in the service of Mr. Sinclair of Launceston to Port Phillip. 11 June 1841: Free Pardon granted no. 730.
