Family connections for William (Roberts) are: ROBERTS William (Roberts) was born about 1754. He was tried for horse theft at Warwick Assizes on 7 4 1787, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship NEPTUNE; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. He was Free by Servitude by 1804. He was Free by Servitude when he had a relationship with Jane (Longhurst her first relationship) whom he later married. He was an innkeeper when he married Jane (Longhurst) Free by Servitude on 3 4 1810 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He became wealthy & was able to provide a land dowry to his daughter Ann on 8 2 1819. He died on 13/15 9 1819 age65 at Sydney & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Jane (Longhurst) was born about 1783. She was tried for larceny at Surrey Quarter Sessions on 11 7 1801, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 3 1803 after a voyage of 6months on HMS GLATTON. She was issued her Ticket of Leave in 1806. She was Free by Servitude by 1810. She was an emancipist when she married secondly William (Hutchinson his second marriage) wharfinger on 21 6 1825 at St James CofE Sydney. In 1828 she is recorded at George St Sydney. She died on 18 12 1836 age52 mother of maybe 8children. [Some details taken from this Website] William (Roberts) & Jane (Longhurst) produced 8children: mostly boys 1.Ann (Roberts) was born on 3 8 1804. She married at age14 Solomon (Levy) dealer on 11 2 1819 at St Johns CofE Parramatta/St Phillips CofE Sydney when she was provided with a land dowry by her father-she provided 2children. She left her husband for a lover & died from his mistreatment on 3 2 1824 age19-she was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. ..Solomon (Levy/Levey) was born about 1794. He was tried as accessory to theft with 1other, on 18 8 1813, of tea at Old Bailey on 27 10 1813, sentenced to 7years, held probably at London/Middlesex Gaol Delivery & possibly on hulk RETRIBUTION & arrived in NSW as a convict on 27 1 1815 after a voyage of 5months on MARQUIS OF WELLINGTON. He commenced dealing in real estate & supplying goods to Government. He was a dealer in 1819 & was issued his Absolute Pardon & Certificate of Freedom no.345 on 8 2 1819; he was 5'6" dark pale complexion black hair dark hazel eyes. He became a proprietor of the Bank of New South Wales store keeper ship broker and agent with sealing interests and a base at Tahiti whence he imported island products in his own ships; he was a partner in a water-mill at Liverpool, owned a rope factory, and had grazing properties and land grants in the Counties of Argyle and Cumberland. He took on civic duties & was a generous supporter of benevolent and religious institutions and acted as a trustee for the Sydney Public Grammar School. He journeyed to England in pursuit of his business interests. He bankrolled the failed settlement in Swan River colony by Mr (Peel). The dates of birth and death listed above appear to be for William Roberts who arrived on Scarborough 1788. Northampton Mercury Northamptonshire, England 7 Apr 1787: At Warwick Assizes, which ended on Saturday last, 60 Prisoners took their Trials,...... William Roberts, for Horse-stealing. William Roberts is listed as being on the 'Neptune'. Born C1754. 3/4/1810: Married Jane Longhurst (Glatton 1803) at St. Phillips, Sydney.. They had 8 children. 13/9/1819: William died in Sydney. Jane then married William Hutchinson (Hillsborough 1799) 21/6/1825 at Sydney. Jane died 18/12/1836, Sydney.
