Jane Robinson alias Bridget Wray, 29 yrs, single, a doubler, larceny. Also prior, twice convicted of felony & once committed for vagrancy. Prison Registers and Statistical Returns - pg 162 1843-1850 HO 24/12




Jane ROBINSON was convicted at Salford, Lancaster, England on 12 April 1847 for Larceny - break and enter and steal brass. 3rd conviction. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the 'Cadet' arriving 2 Jan 1848. Ship surgeon's report: "good". Single woman; aged 20 yrs; housemaid; Roman Catholic; 5'1 1/2" height; can read & write; fresh complexion; black hair; blue eyes. Native place of birth: Manchester, England. (ref. Convict record) Mother: Jane, at native place. Colony of VDL: Stationed on the 'Anson' hulk, Hobart. Assigned to work services. Nov 1848: absent without leave. 3 mths hard labour at the Female Factory, Hobart. Further misconduct and time spent at the Factory. 18 March 1851: Ticket of Leave granted. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 16 Sept 1852 - Jane ROBINSON (per Cadet) to William DAVIS (free or free by servitude). Approved. (ref. Con 52/1/5 pg 105) N.B. there are several people in the Colony named William Davis, but most likely the man who was a Whitesmith transported on the 'Duncan' 1840/41. MARRIAGE: 25 Oct 1852 - Jane ROBINSON, aged 32, spinster to William DAVIS, aged 38 yrs, Whitesmith at St. George's Church, Hobart. (ref. 37/1/11 no. 429)
