Staffordshire Advertiser Staffordshire, England 21 Apr 1827: Caution to Pugilists. —At the Salop Assize, Miles Roden, celebrated bruiser, was convicted manslaughter, in having killed James Tilley, in a barbarous pugilistic encounter. The circumstances were of a very aggravated description ; and the Judge (Mr. Barch Garrow) sentenced the prisoner to be transported for life. Miles Roden was listed as 22 years old on arrival. Native Place: Wellington. Miles was illiterate, 5'6" tall, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, horizontal scar on forehead. 16/5/1828: Miles Roden died and was buried at St. Philip's, Sydney.
