Joseph was convicted at York on 06/07/1840 for stealing wearing apparrel. 10yr transportation sentence. Transported on the 'David Clarke' arriving Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) 04/10/1841. Convict no. 60703. (ref. as above - pg 237) Protestant; read & write; groom; 5'6 3/4"; aged 36; married (widowed); dk brown hair; black whiskers; brown eyes; 2 rings on fingers; Native Place - Penniston. 1 brother - Levi. Gaol report: previous conviction & imprisonment. Bad character. Station Gang: Browns River 1 1/2yrs. Expired 04/04/1843. 06/12/1841: Neglect of duty - reprimand. 1842: report - quiet, good, orderly. 02/09/1843: Perth (Tas) 13/09/1843: Mr. Leeke (Estate owner & Magistrate), Campbell Town 12/01/1847: Ticket of Leave 08/06/1847: Application to marry Elizabeth Davis (per 'Tasmania II') 26/07/1847: Married Elizabeth Davis (ref. 624/1847-37 BDM) Joseph aged 43yrs, Elizabeth 23yrs. 04/09/1848: at Campbell Town - drunk. Joseph had epilepsy and was committed to New Norfolk asylum on 26/09/1856 where he later died. Joseph married Eliza Davis, also a convict with epilepsy, on 08/06/1847 in Campbelltown, Tasmania. Eliza gave birth to twin girls, Amelia Eleanor and Elizabeth, on May 20th 1847 and on 27/06/1850 gave birth to a boy, Joseph Henry.
