Henry ROGERS was convicted at Wellington, New Zealand on 10 April 1843 for housebreaking, along with others - Coghlan and Rowley (Nowland informed against them). Had previously been charged for drunkenness, in Sydney, Australia. Served 12mths at Port Nicholson, New Zealand for stealing. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Portenia' arriving 20 June 1843. Henry was originally from London but had been a castaway on the Wynwick (?)but then joined her. Stated he went to New Zealand on the Susannah Ann from Sydney. He had arrived in Sydney in 1831 per the Nourmahal and had been a whaler. Single man; aged 40yrs; Protestant; not literate; a whaler/seaman (for 16 or 17 years). Native Place: St. James, London Mother: Ann - at native place Sisters: Mary & Frances - at native place 2 yrs Probation Period - at Impression Bay, VDL. 1852: at Launceston - Drunk. 14 days solitary confinement. 13 April 1853: Certificate of Freedom Appears to have spent some time in hospital. 30 Dec 1862 died, at Port Arthur, Tas.
