Sess, Sutton Forrest, 11 Oct 1830, Two years for Absconding & forging the name of D. Reid Esq to a pass, Returned to Sydney, 28 Feb 1834. Run 30 Sep , Ret 7 Oct 1831. Description, John Rogers, native place, Armagh; age 40, 5 ft 10 ½; Dark comp, brown hair, hazle eyes. Catholic.

COUNTY OF DOWN ASSIZES. ,DOWNPATRICK -MONDAY, AUGUST 4. (Continued from our last.) BIGAMY. John Rogers, indicted for bigamy, in marrying Mary Montgomery, while his former wife, Martha Mahony, was still living. Rev. Bernard James O'Loughlin -Is a R. Catholic Clergyman -celebrated a marriage on 5th Feb. between a person calling himself John Rogers and Martha Mahony - is not quite sure of prisoner -they both said they were R. Catholics -this was in the parish of Belfast -saw no appearance of intoxication on the man who was married. Pat. Lawlor -Knows prisoner and Martha Mahoney- was present at their marriage in Feb. last-it was performed by Mr. J. O'Loughlin -always understood they were R. Catholics.-Cross-ex.-When prisoner and witness were In the army together, he has known prisoner go to the Protestant Church, by the Colonel's order-prisoner had drank that day with witness but neither were drunk -prisoner had only come to Belfast a few days before. Rev. Thomas Hincks -Is Curate of St. Ann's Church, Belfast-on 26th May, a person calling himself John Rogers, applied for a marriage license, which he got; as was customary, he took the oath that he had no pre-contract -the Iicense was addressed to Mr. Potts, Curate of Ballymacarratt -the parties did not say they were It. Catholics-it was not necessary witness has authoritv to grant licenses from the Vlcar-General of the diocese. Rev. John H. Potts -Is Curate of Bullymacarrett -a person calling himself John Rogers, brought a license, which he now produces -identifies prisoner -three days after witness married him to Mary Montgomery in Ballymacarrett Church.- Cross.ex.-Rogers told him he was a Protestant -did not know him before.- Guilty; 7 years transportation.
