Convict Notes

… the next day a woman died for the murder of a man, and that man her husband! - her assistants, her panders in sin and guilt are – her father and her brother! …. .. The execution of this terrific deed was more speedy than that of above. A family feud long existed between the unhappy husband and his wife’s family, which they determined on concluding, by murdering the subject of their sanguinary rage. The husband had been from home, and had drank somewhat too freely. On his return, his wife met him, and Judas like, gave him the fond salutation of a kiss, drew him into the house, and coiled her arms round him, seated him in her lap, whilst her brother beat out his brains. The father, we have heard, was a silent, though reluctant spectator. On the trial, every circumstance was fully proved against the brother and sister. We need scarcely say they suffered for the deed. (Limerick Advertiser) Morning Chronicle, 21 Aug 1819.

A verdict of wilful murder is returned against Pat. Roger, his son and daughter, who are apprehended and lodged in Ennis Jail, by Sir William Reid, for the murder of the daughter's husband, Thady Cunningham, at Scarriff, on Sunday. Limerick Chronicle April 14 1819. -------------------------------------------------- Assizes Intelligence. TUESDAY, JULY ?. ... John Rogers, James Rogers, and Mary Cunningham, for the murder of Thomas Cunningham. Since our last statement several convictions have taken place in the Crown Court. … and on Thursday, John Rogers and Mary Cunningham, alias Rogers were executed at the same place, for the murder of Thady Cunningham, the woman's husband. James Rogers the father of the two above-mentioned persons, in consequence of the interference of the Jury, was respited until 14th of August. British Press, 10 Aug 1819.
