WOLVERHAMPTON Last week we have a statement, which, though short, was correct, of a serious assault by man upon a female, which ended in the death of the latter. following are particulars:— The names of the parties are, John Rogers and Mary Brearley, otherwise Hill; they were, at the time of the transaction, both in state of intoxication. An inquisition the body of the deceased has been held at the Peacock Tun, before H. Smith, Esq , coroner, which, after a strict and patient enquiry during two days, in the course of which eleven witnesses were examined, terminated in a verdict of .murder being returned against John Rogers, who was thereupon committed  to our county gaol. As the case will shortly be investigated before higher tribunal, we refrain from detailing the evidence; Staffordshire Advertiser, 1 Aug 1829. CROWN COURT. TRIAL OF JOHN ROGERS, CHARGED WITH MURDER. John Rogers, a young man of rather genteel appearance, was placed the bar, charged with the wilful murder of Mary Brearley  otherwise Mary Hill, on the 22nd of July last, at the parish Wolverhampton. …. … but without any intention to kill her, and that she had provoked him it by abusive language. The Jury found him guilty manslaughter only; ... Staffordshire Advertiser, 15 Aug 1829. On Monday last, the following Convicts left our County Prison, for the Justitia Hulk, at Chatham :John Rogers, for life;  ... Staffordshire Advertiser, 29 Aug 1829.
