Richard Rodgers was convicted at Wells, Somerset on 25/03/1845 for sheep stealing. Sons Joseph & John also charged with same offence & on board same ship. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Equestrian 2' arriving 15 Oct 1845. Native place - nr Wells, Somerset, England. Record states married, 7 children. Wife Maria; Sons - John, Joseph, Thomas, Henry & Charles. Daughters - Sophia & Catherine. Aged 51yrs; farm labourer/miner; 5'6 3/4"; stout; fresh complexion; brown hair; blue eyes. Ship Surgeon's Report: very well behaved. Station Gang: Coal Mines, 15mths. Emerged from Gang 21/01/1847. Died 31/05/1847 in a tree felling accident in the district of Hobart Town. Inquest June 1847. (Son John received Free Certificate 1855; son Joseph received Free Certificate 1853.)
