JAMES ROSE, JOHN MOLLOY, Theft > pocketpicking, 1st December 1831. 208. JAMES ROSE and JOHN MOLLOY were indicted for stealing, on the 27th of November , 1 handkerchief, value 1s. 6d., the goods of George Weblin , from his person . GEORGE WEBLIN . I live in St. Mary-axe, and am a hair-dresser . On Sunday evening I was in Leadenhall-street with a female; she stopped, and I turned round and saw one of the prisoners drop my handkerchief - they were together with a third person, they were two or three yards from me when the handkerchief was dropped. WILLIAM ARTHUR . On the 27th of November I was on duty in Leadenhall-street; I saw the prisoners and another person with them - I found this handkerchief under my feet, and saw Rose drop it; I seized these two, and the other person got away - they were walking close behind the prosecutor; Molloy attempted to get away - I called Stop thief! the prosecutor took him. Molloy. Q.Where did you see me in company with Rose? A.Near the watch-house door; you and Rose were close together, arm-in-arm, and hand-in-hand, I may say; they were all three behind the prosecutor, busy in taking the handkerchief, Rose's Defence. The handkerchief was hove at my feet.(Property produced and sworn to.) Molloy's Defence. I was going to get a drink of water, and the officer said I was going to pick the gentleman's pocket - I was as good as six or seven yards before the gentleman. ROSE - GUILTY. Aged 14. 1834 - 29 Nov. Sydney Goal Entrance Book. Labourer. Sent to Newcastle. 5 Dec. 1841 - 3 April. Newcastle Goal Entrance Book. No; 669. Committed by J A Robertson. Scone. Crime; Forgery. Purpose; for Trial 1841 - The Sydney Monitor and Commercial Advertiser. Mon 13 Sep 1841. Page 2. Supreme Circuit FORGERY. James Rose, free by servitude, was charged with forging and uttering, at Aberdeen. on the 19th November last, an order and warrant for £90 purporting to be drawn by John Howe, in favor of one Thomas Reid or order upon Messrs. Robert Howe and Son, with intent to defraud one Phillip Wright and another. The Jury found the prisoner guilty of uttering the order knowing it to be forged. The prisoner was then remanded for sentence, in order that his previous character might be enquired into. The Court then Adjourned, 1841 - The Sydney Monitor and Commercial Advertiser. Wed 15 Sep 1841. Page 2 Supreme Circuit Thursday--Before Mr. Justice Stephens. Sentence: James Rose, who, on the previous day, had been convicted of forgery, was sentenced to be worked in irons on the roads, for the period of three years.
