John Ross, tenant in Claggin, parish of Rogart, in the county of Sutherland, accused of stealing, from the farm of Rhine, - two sheep , the property of D. Gilchrist, Esq. of Ospisdale, was brought to the bar, and pleaded Not Guilty. ... Caledonian Mercury, 5 May 1817.

Attestation We hereby certify that John Ross a convict for 7 years who came by the ship Batavia which arrived in the year 1818 has not been convicted of any crime or misdemeanour in this colony, but is to our belief, an honest, sober and industrious character, having served faithfully William Cox Junior, Esquire of Hobart Villa, from the time of his arrival to January 1823.
