Convicted at Cumberland Quarter Sessions with brother John Ross for stealing lead




Convicted with brother John Ross. Certificate of Freedom No 30/774 on 1 November 1930, listed Joseph as 6 feet, sallow and pock pitted complexion, dark brown mixed with grey hair, brown eyes, lost tooth upper front jaw. Notes on his C of F listed as found on ship "Fortune", runaway from Hyde Park Barrack since 16 November 1835. He was captured 28 January 1836 and sentenced to hard labour in Parramatta gaol for 4 months,was in Darlinghurst gaol for 14 days in 1852 for breach of contract and in Goulburn gaol in 1857 for 18 months for larceny.
