The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Henry ROUSE was convicted at Middlesex, London in 1817 for break, enter & steal, along with George Yates and James Gregory. They all received the Death sentence. Henry Rouse was Transported to New South Wales, Australia per the ship 'Ocean' 1817, for Life. Aged 20 yrs according to court record, but 29yrs on convict indent in 1818; waterman & pilot; 5'9" height; pale complexion; light brown hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Scarborough (ref. convict record). This Henry Rouse is recorded as being transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), a Colony of Australia. His Convict Conduct record has no notation or outcome but there is a record of his details. (N.B. There were other convicts in the Colony by this name or variations of spelling of name.)
