Joseph Rout was 20 years old on arrival in VDL and was transported for Housebreaking and stealing wearing apparel. Joseph was 5'6 3/4" tall, could read, single, protestant, ruddy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. 19/3/1850: TOL 16/9/1851: TOL revoked for being absent from muster. 1848: Married Ellen/or Helen McKenzie, Emma Eugenia 1846) they had 3?? children. No death date for Ellen, but must have died by 1870. 1870:Joseph married Elizabeth Henrietta Cuthbert, the widow of George Nation (Bengal Merchant 1828) who died 11/5/1868. They had 7 children. Joseph moved to Sydney around 1880. 1914: Elizabeth died at her residence, 19 Prosper Street, Rozelle and is buried in the C of E Cemetery, Field of Mars. No death date found for Joseph. He had a son, Joseph, born 1848 and died 1925 Sydney.
