Lawrence Rowan was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

The Printed Convict Indentures state that Lawrence Rowan or Ryan was 8years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Longford. He was a farm servant. Lawrence was convicted of threatening notice at Westmeath on 1 March 1836 and sentenced to 7 years. He had one prior conviction and served 2 months. Physical attributes: Height - 5 feet 6 1/4 inches; complexion dark sallow and pock pitted; hair dark brown and eyes brown. Transport number 6. Prisoner number 36-1989. Please note that there is currently no code for threatening notice to select under crime. Ticket of leave received in 1841 (number 41/2366). Certificate of Freedom received in 1844 (number 44/1768). Additional comment that Lawrence was blind of left eye.
