Martha Rowe, 17 years of age convicted at the late Surrey Assizes of robbing her master; General Evening Post, 10 April 1810.




Martha was transported from Sydney Cove to Van Diemen’s Land 11 February 1812 on the Ruby. In Van Diemen’s Land she married John Huxley, who had also been transported on Admiral Gambier and Friends from England to Sydney Cove March 1811 and from Sydney Cove to Van Diemen’s Land 11 February 1812 on the Ruby. They had 5 sons. Martha received a conditional pardon 7 august 1821, then a full pardon 20 December 1838. John Huxley received a land grant in 1823. After John’s death she married Richard Luck, a blacksmith and then John Spalding. Martha outlived all 3 husbands.
